Why Goldline Exists.

People often ask me how Goldline started.

Most expect a story about business plans, market research or spotting a gap in the market.

The truth is much simpler than that.

Goldline exists because my dad wanted my mum to be able to cook the meals she grew up with.

My father, Wayne A’Vard, is a Royal Australian Navy veteran who later became a builder. My mum, Aileen, grew up in Singapore, where cooking wasn’t just about putting dinner on the table—it was how family came together.

When Mum moved to Australia, she found something surprisingly frustrating.

The cooktops available here simply couldn’t produce the heat needed for the style of cooking she knew. The stir-fries, noodle dishes and wok cooking she’d grown up with just weren’t the same.

Dad watched her adapt recipes that had been passed down through generations.

Being a builder, he wasn’t someone who liked accepting that something couldn’t be done.

So he decided to build a better cooktop.

Around the same time, Dad was building homes across Melbourne, many for families from Asian backgrounds. Time and again he heard the same thing from his customers—they were having exactly the same experience as Mum.

What started as one husband trying to solve one problem for his wife suddenly had a much bigger purpose.

In 1991, Mum and Dad founded Goldline.

Not because they wanted to build an appliance company.

Because they wanted to build appliances that worked the way people actually cooked.

Soon after, Goldline introduced Australia’s first domestic cooktop with a dedicated high-powered wok burner. It wasn’t designed as a gimmick or a luxury feature. It was built so families could cook the food they loved without compromise.

That simple idea became the foundation of our business.

For almost 30 years our appliances were manufactured in Melbourne. While manufacturing has since moved offshore, we’re still proudly Australian owned. Every product is designed here, our quality standards are set here, and our customer support team is still here in Melbourne.

Growing up, I watched my parents pour everything they had into Goldline.

Like many family businesses, there were long days, late nights and plenty of sacrifices. But there was also an enormous sense of pride. They never lost sight of the people using our products. Every customer mattered because every kitchen belonged to another family, just like ours.

Today, I’m proud to be part of the next generation leading Goldline alongside Adam Newstead, who joined the business over 15 years ago and shares my parents’ belief that good service still matters.

A lot has changed since Mum first stood in our kitchen wishing for a better cooktop.

Technology has changed.

Homes have changed.

Kitchens have changed.

But the reason Goldline exists hasn’t.

We’re still a family business designing appliances for real families.

Because in our home, that’s where it all began.

Family-Owned. Customer-Focused.

Wayne and Aileen built Goldline while raising three children, growing the company with the same care and dedication they gave their family. Today, although they’ve stepped back from daily operations, their legacy lives on through a new generation of leadership.

Adam Newstead, a fellow Navy veteran, joined Goldline in 2005. With his natural leadership, deep industry knowledge, and unwavering focus on customer relationships, Adam rose to become General Manager in 2020. He’s been instrumental in expanding Goldline’s national presence while keeping its values firmly intact.

In 2025, Celia Hale, Wayne and Aileen’s daughter, joined the business as Operations Manager. A former police officer and mother of two, Celia brings a strong sense of service, discipline, and family pride to her role. Together, Adam and Celia are leading Goldline into the future—combining experience and heritage with innovation and care.
