On the 17th of October this year, the Vogue Australia group began celebrations for the Vogue Festival 2019, celebrating the 60th birthday for the brand at Sean’s Kitchen in Adelaide Casino. The same location also hosted the inaugural supper club for GQ, with a lunch hosted by Edwina McCann, editor in chief.
The location served an amazing three-course meal complete with wine from the official partner for the event, Seppetsfield Barossa. The Vogue Kitchen lunch was an amazing opportunity to see well-dressed guests coming together to celebrate the latest milestone for the publication, and the launch of the third Vogue festival in Adelaide too. Throughout the course of the lunch, Edwina McCann took to the stage to discuss fashion and food with Glynis Traill-Nash, the fashion editor for The Australian.
Alongside the lunch, the Vogue Festival which brought GQ Australia into the festivities proved to be the best and biggest event for the annual experience yet, with fashion parades, pop up stores, exclusive parties on the street, live music, and so much more.
When Fashion Meets Kitchen Style
The Vogue Kitchen event was naturally focused on food and fashion, but it also highlighted something the two worlds have in common: style and thoughtful design.
Just as fashion brings together colour, materials and details, kitchen design involves finding the right balance between appearance and function. From the cabinetry and walls to the table, seating, appliances and smaller accessories, every element can contribute to the overall character of the room.
For anyone considering a kitchen renovation, events and spaces like Sean’s Kitchen can also provide a little inspiration. You don’t necessarily need to completely transform a room to give it a new look. With a little creativity, changing selected finishes, appliances or accessories can help establish a different kitchen style while keeping your budget in mind.
Designer Kitchen And the Way Around It
A successful kitchen isn’t only about how it looks. The way the available space is organised can also influence how comfortable the kitchen is for cooking and entertaining.
In a larger kitchen, an island can provide additional workspace, storage or casual seating. In a smaller kitchen, the focus may instead be on making better use of cabinetry and vertical space to create more space where it matters.
The position of major elements also deserves consideration. The fridge, cooking appliances, preparation areas and storage all need to work together. Even the location of the kitchen entrance can affect how people move through the room, particularly when several people are cooking or entertaining at once.
These were important considerations for homeowners and designers in 2019, as kitchens continued to serve not simply as places to prepare meals, but as social areas within the home.
Creating a Modern Kitchen Design in 2019
For homeowners looking at a modern kitchen in 2019, functionality was just as important as appearance. Clever storage, practical work areas and carefully selected appliances could all help homeowners make better use of the room available.
Goldline explored similar ideas throughout 2019. Our guide to maximising kitchen functionality looked at ways homeowners could create a practical kitchen without compromising on style, including the use of open-plan layouts and available space.
For those considering a bigger change, Could Now Be the Time to Remodel Your Kitchen? also explored how homeowners could approach a kitchen remodel, from setting a goal and budget to making better use of smaller spaces.
And when the cooktop itself forms part of the design, our 2019 article on the beauty of black glass-ceramic cooktops looked at how black appliances could complement different kitchen styles.
Finding Inspiration For Your Kitchen Renovation
One of the interesting things about an event like Vogue Festival is that inspiration doesn’t have to stay within fashion. Colours, textures, layouts and materials seen in restaurants, events and other interiors can spark ideas for the home as well.
Whether the goal is a complete kitchen renovation or simply refreshing a few details, looking beyond traditional kitchen inspiration can encourage a little creativity. Fashion and interior design may be different worlds, but both demonstrate how carefully chosen details can bring an overall look together.
